Starter Houses Must Be Indentical

Nice but identical.
More of the same
Nice if it wasn't exactly like the others

This is something that drives me crazy. Wendy and I were driving up by Carter Crescent in Saskatoon and took these pictures. They are some starter homes that were built a couple of years ago and are pretty nice but they all look exactly the same or have only minor variations. I would kind of like to live in one when I see them but I don't think I want to live on a street where everyone of my neighbors homes looks just like mine.

That being said, the row houses that Jeb (http://www.jebrunquist.com), Todd, and I walked by every day while we were down at Soularize (http://www.soularize.org) were almost identical in every way shape and form so who knows. My personal opinion is that it works in better in a more urban enviroment then on the western edge of Saskatoon and it needs some commercial enemities nearby like a market or something.

I like the idea but something just seemed to go wrong for me in implementation.

The largest tree in Saskatchewan :: Popoff Tree

Tree --> (I love this sign)

View all 9 photos...
Saskatchewan's largest tree is a very old and stately cottonwood growing at David Ferry, on the North Saskatchewan River due east of the lake.

This monster has a circumference of nearly 5 meters. It's actually a natural hybrid of plains cottonwood and balsam popular, and is the last and largest of a stand that was young long before the first white settlers arrived in the area. Doukabours settlers, fleeing religious persecution in Czarist Russia, were awed by the big cottonwoods, and made temporary homes in caves cut out of the river bank nearby. The tree is accessible along the "tree road", which runs east from Route 12, about 10 km south of the town of Blaine Lake.

David Ferry? Please explain. The crossing was originally known as the Teifengrund Ferry (Crossing) and was later changed to Laird Ferry. Tue 18-Jan-2005 02:03

The Meewasin River Authority is just finishing up a multi-year renovation of the area around Saskatoon's Weir. Wendy, Mark, and I wandered down there tonight to poke around and to walk across the CN Rail bridge. We took the digital camera along as well.

Trip to the park

Wendy, Mark, Elway, and I went down the street to the park today and goofed around. The highlight was Elway playing with a dog that looked just like him. They liked each other a lot and she was a female and Elway did what dogs do to embarrass their owners. I am never taking the dog out again for as long as I live. It was embarassing. The other highlight was Mark killing a grasshopper and yelling, "I killed it, I killed it!". Nice.

Here are some pictures that Amanda Johnson took down at the Freehouse on June 1 of 2003. It gives you an idea of what we are about and what we look like.

Labour Day

Barbed wire, always a nice exterior look

View all 39 photos...
The day started at Christ Church (Anglican) in Mayfair/Caswell when Wendy and I went over to take some pictures with Mark. The building was built in 1954 (it looks older than that) and is showing some signs of neglect and lack of money. It has some low roofs which someone decided to protect with barbed wire that gives a "you're not welcome here" feel to it.

The three of us then headed downtown to see the Bessborough and goof around in Meewasin Park. We took pictures of the day.
